Selecting a caterer for your big day can be tough...so many choices and such great food. We did a little Q&A with local caterer, Cracked Pepper Catering and its owner Travis Mohlenbrink. He's young, savvy, and quite the culinary visionary! He had great insight to share. Please keep Cracked Pepper in mind for your wedding, showers, rehearsal dinners, or parties. You won't be disappointed in their food or service!
BEB: How long have you been in business? CP: We have been in the catering business for over 4 years. We opened a bakery/cafe 14 months ago and just opened our second location in May of this year.
BEB: How did you get your start? CP: I have been in the food business for 14 years and traveled the country for some great company’s. I have always known that the catering business was what I wanted to do. There is more of a personal touch to all the events and you get to know your customers very well.
BEB: What is something you MUST try from Cracked Pepper? CP: Everyone must try a bacon log from our bakery’s. Yeast doughnut, whipped maple icing and a thick slice of bacon cooked with brown sugar on top…..yummy
BEB: What makes Cracked Pepper different than other catering companies? CP: When you deal with our company you deal with the owner (me) I am there for every customer from the first call and at every event we cater. I can make decisions that might be different for every customer. No red tape to go around here.
All our food is awesome!! Our Chef (Jim Cochren) makes the food from scratch….yes catering food from scratch.
BEB: What advice would you give to couples looking for their caterer? CP: I would advise couples to book early. If you don’t want to settle you need to get in the books as soon as you can. Remember all the good caters schedule fills fast;-)
BEB: Pros/Cons to a buffet CP: A buffet can be a great meal at a great price and in some cases not require a serving staff (automatic savings of 18%). Buffets may not be considered to be “fancy” as a plated meal and that can be important to some people.
BEB: Pros/cons to a plated meal CP: Plated meals can cost a bit more to the customer. The choices of a plated meal can almost be unlimited when there are some restrictions to buffets.
CP: We only take on as much business as we can handle. We are not and will never be a big catering company, because of how important the quality of our food is to us. If you aren't already sold on how great they are - you should sit down and chat with Travis or schedule a tasting. I know you won't be disappointed.
