Selecting what the men of the wedding party are going to wear is as important as the men and style of the wedding. There are more options today than ever before and brides and grooms are choosing to show their style through every detail including the men’s attire.
Traditional - Tuxedo Rental This is usually selected because you are hosting a traditional formal/semi-formal wedding. The groom should register about four to six months before the wedding and select the style of tuxedo. Visit Savvi Formalwear to learn what current styles are available. You will need to select a vest color for the groomsmen that should coordinate with the bridesmaids and if you would prefer ties or bowties. You might choose a second color or a black vest with same color tie for the ushers. Then about six weeks before the wedding the men should be measured. If your groomsmen are out of town they can visit a tuxedo store in their area and call in their measurements. A day or so before the wedding each person should pick-up his tuxedo. The rental company will review the fit and make any needed alterations. Even though one was measured – they need to try their tuxes on! Guys always try to avoid this! Don’t forget to return the tuxedos! It can be helpful to put one person in charge of collecting all rented tuxedos the morning after the wedding and returning them to the store. The benefit: The cost savings of renting, everyone looks the same and no one has to keep that hot pink vest and bow tie.
Contemporary - Suits A casual yet still polished approach is that the gentlemen wear matching suits. There is a lot of flexibility in color such as gray, navy and tan when purchasing suits for the wedding party. Start local as well as research the web. Department stores have suits in-stock that the groom can try on and can be ordered from their other locations to accommodate the wedding party. There are many websites that have a large selection and are sometimes able to send a few. Determine your favorites and then just return those not selected. You will also have a lot of options for dress shirts and ties. If you would like the ties to match the bridesmaids, some companies like The Dessy Group make vests and ties that be can be ordered in the same exact fabric and colors as their bridesmaid dresses. After you select where and what suit the men will be wearing, you will need to decide how to coordinate the purchasing. Will each person be responsible to order their own suit? Or would one person (Bride, Best Man, Wedding Coordinator, etc) be responsible for acquiring everyone’s sizes and payments and then making one order? The benefit: Everyone gets to keep their suit. |
