Alternatives to the traditional wedding cake

CupcakesA wedding cake is thought to be the focal point of the reception. Everyone always gets excited not only to taste it, but to see it – the endless tiers, the perfectly rolled fondant and flawless piping. Sure, a wedding cake is a timeless tradition, but there are some viable alternatives

Cupcakes, while very similar to cake, provide a bit of added fun and uniqueness. Cupcakes have come a long way and can be decorated in almost any fashion. They are easy to serve and require no cutting. Every guest is sure to be pleased when a beautiful cupcake is placed in front of them.

Cheesecake is a unique alternative to the traditional cake. Cheesecakes come in a variety of flavors and they too can be decorated and turned into an elaborate focal point of any reception. Cheesecakes can be stacked, shaped and made to look like regular cakes, or they can even be made into cupcakes of varying size.

CandyIce cream in individual dishes garnished with chocolate shavings or a cherry can be a delicious and fun alternative to cake, especially if your wedding happens to fall on a hot summer day. Ice cream does not have to be covered in rainbow sprinkles; it too can be turned into a elegant dessert that is sure to impress your guest.

Not sure if you can leave behind the tradition of cutting the cake with your new husband? Have a small cake made just for you two. A cheesecake alternative can also be cut like a traditional cake.

You can even select your favorite dessert. Double fudge brownies a’la mode? Go for it! Apple pie? Why not?! Your wedding day is all about you. Don’t incorporate something just because you think you have to. Do what you want to do. And dessert is the perfect way to venture off the beaten path. But no matter what you choose, enjoy the sugar rush! - BEB
