For gifts received at the wedding, try to get thank you notes sent within 3-4 weeks. It is important to get the notes out before you forget about them. Though traditional etiquette says you have up to one year to send a thank you note (just as guests have up to one year after the wedding to send a gift), we suggest sending them as quickly as possible, so they don’t get lost in the newlywed excitement. Also, don’t be afraid to have your groom chip in to help write them! So often, the thank you burden is placed squarely on the new bride but it should be shared. He could write to his family and friends and you to yours. He may grumble, say his handwriting isn’t great, or just that he doesn’t want to do it…but remind him it’s one of the many happy compromises of married life! Happy writing! |
